Abstract

Cancer is a major health problem both in the world and in Indonesia. The incidence of cancer from 2008 to 2018 has increased from 12.7 million cases to 14.2 million cases. Cancer is the second leading cause of death in the world after cardiovascular disease. It is estimated that by 2030 the incidence of cancer will increase to 26 million people and as many as 17 million people will die from cancer. Based on data from Basic Health Research (Riskesdas) in 2013, the incidence of breast cancer in Indonesia reached 61,682 people which occurred in women. Breast cancer can be detected early starting in adolescence. Providing counseling to young women in the working area of the Sekupang Community Health Center. The extension media used started from printed media such as leaflets. Then the level of knowledge (understanding) of adolescent participants was evaluated using a questionnaire sheet with pre and post test The results of the activity showed that 80% of adolescent girls' knowledge about breast cancer was good, and 65% of young women had positive attitudes towards awareness screening. Health education related to early detection of breast cancer, which is carried out especially for young women, should continue to be done to minimize the incidence of breast cancer in the future. The special attention given to young women is a great asset for the nation so that the incidence of breast cancer is increasing from year to year. Youth participation in the Sekupang Community Health Center is very good. It is hoped that adolescents will be able to apply the steps for early detection of breast cancer and adopt a healthy lifestyle.
